About Dawn Aarons

Dawn has been visiting Melaque since 1999 and has fallen in love with it. Her primary goal is to share her love of this community and culture.

Dawn is fluent in Spanish and English and enjoys translating.

Dawn is an Acupuncturist working in Toronto, Canada. She has been studying Tai Chi since 1987 and Mindfulness Meditation since 1998. With appreciation to her  teacher, Master Hung Ting-Seng, she was awarded two silver medals at the Canadian Open Tai Chi competition in 2009.

Experience of the joy and meaning that healthy living adds to day to day life has inspired the creation of Melaque Retreats.  There are gifts to be had by spending time in this beautiful, safe, friendly spot. Dawn eagerly shares the benefits of meditation, exercise, healthy eating and mindful awareness with her patients and friends.

Dawn began studying meditation when she completed the MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program) with Dr. Bill Knight in 1998. Since that time, Dawn is a regular attendee of weekend and weeklong retreats with Norman Feldman and Molly Swan. Dawn has led Qigong exercises on retreat with Norman and Molly and will be doing so on their retreat in Guelph November 2012. Dawn completed a two year intensive meditation training with Daryl Lyn Ross with TNI (True North Insights) in 2010-11. Dawn has enjoyed workshops and studying the books of many teachers, including but not limited to, Thich Naht Hanh, Sharon Salzberg, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Stephen Levine, Rupert Spira, Francis Lucille, Frank Ostaseski, and Jack Kornfield. Dawn is comfortable to introduce mindfulness and insight meditation techniques to newcomers; however, she generally identifies as a colleague rather than as a teacher – inviting people to explore the teachings with her in an environment of mutual respect and enquiry. Dawn has maintained a daily sitting practice since 2007 and is grateful for the solidity, insight, calm and ground that it has added to her life.
